Putting things in Perspective

So Friday I whined about being in a funk (thanks to all who posted comments - they helped so much!).  I whined about rejection and low sale numbers.  Then I learned about the tragedy in Japan and like a punch to the gut - it put my life in perspective in an instant.  My problems a mere grain of sand on a beach in comparison.

My heart goes out to all those people in Japan who are struggling in the wake of such a tragedy.  If you are able to donate or help the rescue efforts,  please do so.  Here's a link to the American Red Cross, but I'm sure there are dozens of agencies who are collecting donations: http://www.redcross.org/  The American Red Cross made an initial 10 million dollar donation to help Japan yesterday.

And to follow up on Friday's post with some good news - I finished the first draft of TOUCH of POWER last night - yippee!!  It needs a major overall to clean it up, but, for me the hardest part is the first draft - the rest is fun :)  The other bit of good news is I sold that fairy story that was rejected to another anthology.  Yay!  I emailed Trisha Telep, who is the editor for a few of the other anthologies I'm in (Eternal Kiss, Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance, and the upcoming Corsets & Clockwork).  At first she said she just filled her fairy anthology, but two days later she had an author drop out and she took my story for her Wicked Pretty Things due out in September.

  1. Yay! That's awesome you finished Touch of Power, Maria! =) Even if it's the first draft, that is still a tough hill to climb. The tragedy in Japan has really put a lot of things in perspective, and it's all of our hopes that things will settle for all of the people there.

    Have a wonderful day. =)

  4. Can't wait to see Touch of Power on the shelves!
I love showing off my two signed copies to everyone. I'm actually investing in second copies on the two so I don't ruin them. I'm one of those anal readers who don't like to bend the spine of the books. Gotta keep them in mint condition!

    Congrats again!
